Basketball season is in full swing at Gannon, and we invite you to join the Gannon Alumni Association on Jan. 27 (vs. Edinboro) and Feb. 23 (vs. Mercyhurst) for pre-game receptions before the women’s and men’s teams take the court at the Hammermill Center. Tour Gannon’s new state-of-the-art Patient Simulation Center in the Morosky Academic Center on Jan. 21 from 5-7 p.m. as part of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership’s Business After Hours program. GU/Mercyhurst Alumni Face Off
Gannon University alumni will compete against alumni from local rival Mercyhurst College in the 2nd Annual Mercyhurst vs. Gannon Men’s Alumni Basketball Game. The event will be held Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for youth; students with a valid college ID and children five years old and under are admitted for free. All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Join Us for an Evening of Jazz
For spring, the Alumni Lunchtime Lecture Series will feature an evening jazz lecture and performance. All alumni, faculty, students and friends are welcome to attend on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel (Upper Lounge) at 520 Peach St. Dr. Allen Zurcher and Friends will perform. VP for Enrollment Services Chosen
Gannon University President Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D., has appointed William R. Edmondson as Gannon University’s new vice president for enrollment. The newly defined position reports directly to the president and oversees a staff of 48 in the areas of undergraduate and graduate admissions (domestic and international), financial aid and the registrar’s office. If your new year’s resolution involves strengthening your career, Gannon University’s Office of Career Development and Employment Services can help! Alumni who are transitioning after a job loss are encouraged to contact Cheryl Rink ’92, ’95M, assistant director of Gannon’s Center for Experiential Education, or complete an online form for help with resume building, career networking and more. Gannon graduates can also help current students and fellow alumni by offering employment, internship and cooperative education opportunities. Gannon Gets Greener
Every year the average American generates 1,460 pounds of trash—only 180 pounds less than the combined weight of the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line. In an attempt to help lower the amount of garbage that people create, Gannon University is participating in the next Recyclemania challenge. Read more >

Every Alum Has a Story
Dr. Stacey J. Hitt ’87, ’88M graduated from Gannon University in 1987 with a degree in management information systems and received his MBA from Gannon in 1988. In 2001, he received a doctorate in internet communications/knowledge management from The Union Institute and University (Cincinnati, Ohio). While at Gannon, Stacey lettered four years as a member of the men’s basketball team. Recently, the 1986-87 team was selected for induction into the Gannon University Athletics Hall of Fame, with an induction ceremony held on Jan. 9, 2010.  Read more >

More than 250 students received diplomas and joined the ranks of the University’s alumni on Dec. 13 during Gannon’s winter commencement. Thomas Loftus ’74M, senior vice president of Lord Corp. (retired), gave the keynote address. Read more about the ceremony >

Gannon University Celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Please join Gannon University as we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2010 with the theme, "Blessed are the Peacemakers."

·         Friday, Jan. 15 @ 7:30 p.m. - Erie Chamber Orchestra Annual Tribute Concert at St. Patrick's Church (130 E. 4th St.). Bruce Morton Wright conducting with the Shiloh Baptist Church Choir under the direction of Frederick Dixon.

·         Sunday, Jan. 17 @ 11 a.m. & 9 p.m. - Sunday liturgies will be held in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel (520 Peach St.). A special collection taken at both Masses will benefit the Wiley-Horton Scholarship Fund.

·         Monday, Jan. 18 @ 9-10:30 a.m. - Dr. Parris J. Baker, director of Gannon’s Social Work Program, will facilitate an interactive training and simulation titled “Blessed are the Peacemakers: The Puzzling Pieces of Peacemaking” in the Waldron Campus Center, Room 219  to illustrate social disorganization theory and strategies to address crime, persistent poverty and community peacemaking. Registration preferred; RSVP to Arlene Montevecchio at (814) 871-7433.

o    11 a.m. - Prayer service in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel (520 Peach St.). All are welcome; hosted by the Gannon University Student Government Association.

o    11:30 a.m. - Martin Luther King Memorial Luncheon in the Waldron Campus Center. Simple sandwiches served immediately after the Prayer Service and before the city-wide Memorial March begins.
