What happens after that long-awaited walk across the commencement stage? From the marketing major who is now a Harvard Medical School dean to the earth science graduate who is managing global sustainability issues for H.J. You’re Invited: Presidential Inauguration
Mark your calendars and plan to join us as Gannon University celebrates the inauguration of its seventh president, Keith Taylor, Ph.D. Several days of festivities are planned for Nov. 3-5, 2011. The weekend’s theme will highlight Catholic service and civic engagement and will feature a discussion forum, service experience and more. Stay tuned for further details.

Distinguished Alumni 2011
All alumni are invited to help Gannon honor five individuals at the University’s annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner during Alumni Homecoming Reunion & Family Weekend, to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 in the Yehl Ballroom, Waldron Campus Center (124 West 7th St.). Honorees this year are: James E. Dudenhoefer ’65; Robert D. Buyan, Esq. ’74; Margaret A. Vanderlaan ’89; Paul R. Gradl ’02, ’04M; and George P. Schillinger ’75. Online registration >

Homecoming to Feature Wine Tasting
Back by popular demand, this year's Alumni Homecoming Reunion & Family Weekend will include an Alumni Wine Tasting on Sept. 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. in Club LaRiccia (just below Beyer Cafeteria). Alumni and parents are invited to attend a wine tasting and heavy hors d'oeuvres extravaganza hosted by alumni-run wineries. You must be 21 years or older to attend. Cost is $25 per person. Wineries featured include Flickerwood Wine Cellars (Tammy (Zampogna) Liberato ’88, manager); Mazza Vineyards (Robert Mazza ’72); and Courtyard Wineries (Paul DiFuccia ’71, partner).

Get Ready to GIVE
This year’s GIVE Day (Gannon’s Invitation to Volunteer Everywhere) is scheduled for Sept. 17, 2011 in Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago, Erie, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Arlington, Texas. Atlanta and New York City will observe GIVE Day on Oct. 1. Online registration >

Tibetan Monks Planning Campus Visit
Gannon University will host six Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery for a week, beginning Sept. 19. The monks will be performing excerpts from ancient rituals, presenting a slide show and lecture about daily monastery life in India and creating a sand mandala in the Waldron Campus Center. Interreligious conversation, sociopolitical discussions and opportunities for more informal interaction with the monks are also planned. Alumni and parents are welcome to attend any and all events. Attention Chicago Alumni and Parents!
Keith Taylor, Ph.D., Gannon’s new president, will be traveling to Chicago for a special reception on Oct. 18, 2011. Mark your calendars to join Dr. Taylor at the Riva Restaurant on Navy Pier from 6-8 p.m. More information will be forthcoming, so stay tuned to and future issues of GU eNEWS for more details!

Preview GU Welcomes New Students
The University welcomed the Class of 2015 on Aug. 20, with four days of Preview GU welcome events scheduled to get them more acquainted with campus, their classes and each other. Use a variety of job search resources. Use online search engines like as well as college career Web pages, classified ads, job fairs and employment agencies. Take time to identify and research companies within your geographical target area and visit their websites to learn about employment opportunities, complete an application or identify candidates for an informational interview. Remembering Bruce Morton Wright ’69, ’00M
Bruce Morton Wright ’69, ’00M, the founder and conductor of the Erie Chamber Orchestra and Gannon University’s music director, died July 29 at his home in Erie at the age of 65. Among other tributes, the 2012 Erie Summer Festival of the Arts will be dedicated to Wright. Read more >

Read all about it! Gannon University is a newsmaker, in Erie and beyond. The Erie Times-News profiled Keith Taylor, Ph.D., as he gears up for his first academic year as Gannon’s president. The newspaper also featured English professor Sally LeVan ’78M and her work with the Young Writers Workshop. The website lists Gannon as a private institution that excels at supporting students with nonverbal learning disabilities, and has a gallery of images of North Hall. Living Our Faith
Join us during Alumni Homecoming Reunion & Family Weekend on Sept. 24 at 10:15 a.m. as we formally bless the newest residence hall on campus, North Hall, located at 143 W. Fourth St. Tours of the facility will be available. Also, you are welcome to attend the Sunday Mass on Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel, followed by Brunch with the President at noon in the Yehl Ballroom.

Several Gannon students and alumni recently reported that they had the chance to celebrate Mass with Pope Benedict XVI on New Year’s Day 2010. The Mass was held at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Those attending included: Joseph Caulfield, Robert Hersch ’10, Joseph Janidlo, Sean Kerins, James Power, Kyle Seyler, Thomas Trocchio ’10, Wes Wheeler, David Whiteford and Jacob Williamson ’10.
