The Golden Knight Quest Has Begun!
Gannon school spirit may be coming to your door! Gannon’s Alumni Services Office has mailed one dozen Golden Knights to alumni around the globe, and we need your help to keep them traveling from classmate to classmate until this year’s homecoming celebration. Read more about this exciting project in the Spring 2012 issue of Gannon Magazine, which hits mailboxes this week or online HERE, and log on to the Golden Knight Quest website to keep track of each Knight’s adventures!

You Can Help Gannon Get $50,000!
Thanks to the generosity of Trustees Tom Guelcher ’62, ’76M and Jim Gehrlein ’72, Gannon stands to get $50,000—but only with your help! The pair have presented all Gannon fans with a challenge: the G & G Challenge! If 1,350 gifts come in before June 30, 2012, they will give Gannon $50,000. So, spread the word. New Provost Announced
President Keith Taylor, Ph.D., has named Andrew J. Novobilski, Ph.D., as the University’s provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. Novobilski currently is serving as dean of the College of Sciences and Mathematics and as a professor of computer science at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. His appointment at Gannon is effective July 1. Read more >

Dr. Linda Fleming Named CHESS Dean
Dr. Linda Fleming was named dean of Gannon’s College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, effective July 1. Fleming has been serving as interim vice president and provost for academic affairs. Fleming previously chaired Gannon’s Department of Psychology and Counseling and was the director of training for the University’s Program in Counseling Psychology. She had served as an associate professor in psychology since 2005, a position she held until her appointment as interim provost. Fleming joined the Gannon faculty in 2000. Read more>

Father Kesicki Named Associate VP for Mission and Ministry
The Rev. Michael T. Kesicki '83 has been appointed associate vice president for Mission and Ministry. Kesicki will serve as the University’s Chief Mission Officer and will lead Gannon’s Office of Campus Ministry, the Center for Social Concerns and the Chaplain’s Office. His appointment is formally effective July 1. Kesicki joined Gannon as a faculty member in 1997 and serves as rector at St. Mark’s Seminary in Erie. The Rev. George E. Strohmeyer will continue to serve Gannon as University Chaplain during the 2012-13 Academic Year.  Read more>

GU Partners with Flagship Niagara

Gannon University has been named the official “university partner” for the Flagship Niagara. As a key strategic partner, the University will provide financial support for the Niagara over the next two years. In addition to Gannon, Erie Bank and WJET-24/FOX-66/ were announced as strategic partners of the historic vessel. “We couldn’t pass up an opportunity to be a part of the educational, historical and exciting experiences the Brig Niagara provides,” explained President Keith Taylor, Ph.D. Read more >

Send Us Your Hall of Fame Nominations
Nominations for the Gannon Athletics Hall of Fame are now being accepted through Gannon’s athletics website. The deadline for the Class of 2013 nominations is July 31, 2012. Nominations will be accepted online throughout the year, but only nominations received before this date will be considered for the 2013 induction. Nomination form >

Bishop Honored at Spring Commencement
President Keith Taylor, Ph.D., awarded some 769 degrees during the University’s May Commencement ceremony, held at Tullio Arena. The graduates included 44 students earning doctoral degrees, 285 earning master’s degrees, one earning a post master’s certificate, 414 earning bachelor’s degrees and 25 earning associate degrees. The Most Rev. Donald W. Trautman, Bishop of Erie, was the ceremony’s keynote speaker and was awarded the Ut Diligatis Invicem award for demonstrating a strong commitment to his faith and being a living example of the Judeo-Christian ideal of love at work.

Gannon University’s completely online degree programs launched almost one year ago and we’d like to encourage you to see what Gannon has to offer via this exciting new delivery method. With our new online format, you are able to pursue a degree from the same great University taught by the same faculty without the hassles of commuting, parking, and disrupting your busy schedule. Gannon offers these programs 100 percent online.

Alumni Association partners to provide Long-Term Care Planning
Learn how to protect your most important asset--your family--from the comfort of your own home.  The Gannon University Alumni Association's Long-Term Care Education and Planning Program is continuing its efforts to build awareness on the need to plan for long-term and extended healthcare by offering informative webinars throughout the month of May.  Click here for more information.

Have High School Students? Check Out these Admissions Tips!
Juniors and Seniors: Start thinking about making summer visits to colleges and universities as you plan your vacation schedule as well. Gannon offers several visit options during the summer, from daily personal visits Monday-Friday to Flip Flop Friday events on July 13 and Aug. 3.  Register to take the SAT or ACT exams that many colleges and universities use as a component in their admissions policies.

  • Saturday, Sept. 15 – Gannon’s Invitation to Volunteer Everywhere (GIVE Day) national alumni day of service
  • Friday, Oct. 19-Sunday, Oct. 21 – Alumni Homecoming & Reunion Weekend (coincides with student homecoming weekend)

Living Our Faith
More than 300 Gannon University students, faculty, staff and alumni dedicated Saturday, April 21 to making the Erie area a better place during United Way Day of Caring. Gannon's participation is in keeping with the University's commitment to service and volunteerism. Gannon volunteers focused on environmental projects and on sites located within the University's Erie-GAINS (Gannon Alliances to Improve Neighborhood Sustainability) neighborhood. In total, 25 sites benefited, with participants engaging in projects like landscaping, trash pick-up and indoor cleaning.
