Annlyn Harvey ’11, ’13MPA
Bachelor of Arts, English
Annlyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Gannon University in 2011, and then received her Masters of Public Administration in 2013. While at Gannon she was a resident assistant, and an assistant residence director. She was president of the Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta and the English Honors Society, a member of Phi Sigma Sigma, the Panhellenic Council, and a University Ambassador as well as involved with several campus ministries (Eucharistic Minister, Music Ministry, ICHTHI).
Gannon allowed her to explore her own personal growth. She felt supported and cared for by the faculty and staff alike. Dr. Phil Kelly played a key role in encouraging her to pursue her passion in student affairs. The staff helped encourage learning outside of the classroom and challenge students to be responsible members of the Gannon community. Her favorite memories involve being a student leader, particularly in the Residence Halls (FINEGAN) as an RA. “Finegan Hall was my home for all of my undergraduate years at GU and I grew to love the community.” Being a RA allowed her to help others enjoy their experience at Gannon and assist students in their transition to college. “I loved watching my residents grow from move-in day to the end of the year, as they joined clubs, got invested in their majors, and explored their purpose.” She states that Gannon was the best decision she ever made, as she called it home for 6 years. After she received her BA she was offered a Graduate Assistantship in Residence Life where she spent the next two years as an Assistant Resident Director of Crispo Apartments. This is where she truly developed a passion for ResLife.
Annlyn is currently the Residential Life Coordinator at Stetson University where her diplomas, Gannon pennant, University Ambassador name tag and photo are all proudly displayed in her office. She is the supervisor of 13 student leaders (RA’s) and responsible for the day-to-day operations of the apartment facilities at Stetson. This role also serves as an on-call emergency response rotation for Campus Life and Student Success, to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. Annlyn is responsible for the development and facilitation of a community development plan by partnering with the community in addressing the needs of the student population. She is a member of the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO), alumna and scholarship recipient of SEAHO, co-chair Mock Interview and Resume Review of the Regional Entry Level Institute (RELI), serving on the Career Support Services Committee and a member of the Association of College and University Housing Officers (ACUHO-I).
Annlyn resides in Deland, FL. In her spare time she loves to embrace the state of Florida and visits the beaches and theme parks. She is an annual pass-holder at Walt Disney World and visits the parks frequently. She enjoys supporting local small businesses and going to farmers markets. While she loves Florida weather, she often misses lake effect snow and enjoys telling stories of it to native Floridians who have never experienced snow, let alone an Erie winter.
Annlyn hopes to continue her career in Student Affairs and plans on enrolling in a Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. Her advice to others is “be open to new possibilities and opportunities. Although things may not go as planned, you never know what doors may open once you allow yourself to see things in a new perspective.”
