Jacob Newara ’16
Bachelor of Arts, Criminal Justice
Jacob Newara ’16 recently started a new career, one that he has worked hard to achieve. He is a Cadet with plans to graduate in December of 2017. Jacob also served the citizens of Girard, PA (Erie County) as a borough police officer.
Transferring to Gannon in his sophomore year, Jacob was also a member of the Gannon Wrestling Team. Additionally, he was given wonderful opportunities to work within his field of criminal justice while receiving a Gannon education. He spent two years as a loss prevention officer, which he says helped him learn to focus on a person’s behavior and to pay attention to details. That position led to a security assignment at a local hospital working mostly with mental health, behavioral health and drug and alcohol patients. While his work experience is impressive, Jacob is quick to add “Gannon’s Criminal Justice Department staff has the knowledge and experience that would be extremely difficult to find in surrounding areas. This program competes with the best criminal justice programs in the country.”
As a member of the Wrestling Team, Jacob’s favorite spot on campus was the Don and Diane Henry Wrestling Room at the Recreation and Wellness Center. He also fondly remembers participating in GIVE Day with his wrestling teammates.
